Every household in the rural areas should have a fire extinguisher
Minister of Social Development and Urbanisation Dato Sri William Mawan Ikom said such an equipment would come in handy in the event of a fire.
He said this when visiting victims of last Thursday night’s fire in Sungai Rusa near here on Saturday.
The residents there had requested Mawan to assist in supplying the 80-odd houses in the area with a fire extinguisher each.
In stating that he would try to get fire extinguishers for them, Mawan advised them to request the local Fire and Rescue Service Department to conduct fire fighting and prevention courses for them.
During the visit Mawan handed over a personal donation of RM500 to the victims. He also handed over assistance from the Welfare Department which included RM40 for each victim, food rations, utensils, clothing and uniforms for school-going children.
It was understood that the Welfare Department would also be giving the family RM2,500 for purchasing building materials.
House owner surnamed Chan, his wife and 18-year old daughter were injured in the incident and hospitalised.
Among those present were Kapitan Kong Shau Phan, SPDP Pakan chairman Ting Kiew Ming and local community leaders.
