Pay rise for 2,787 teacher training and ELTC lecturers

The Public Service Department (PSD) has approved a salary upgrade for 2,787 officers and lecturers serving 27 teachers training institutes and English language training centres (ELTCs), Education Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein announced today.

He said the first phase of the promotion exercise was approved by the PSD on Aug 25.Of the number, he said 793 officers and lecturers in the DG41 grade would be upgraded to the DG44 grade and 1,540 more in the DG44 grade promoted to the DG48 grade.Hishammuddin said 449 officers and lecturers in the DG48 grade would be upgraded to the DG52 grade while five DG52 grade holders would be promoted to the DG54 grade.

The list of the officers and lecturers involved had been sent to the Teacher Education Division (TEC) for screening before the appointment letters are issued to them, he said in a statement issued to reporters covering the breaking of fast hosted by Raja Muda of Perak with school principals, teachers and headmasters at Istana Iskandariah here.Hishammuddin, however, did not mention when the salary upgrade would take effect.He said the TEC was processing the second phase of the promotion exercise.

“The promotion is good news to those in the teacher training profession,” he said, adding that, it was a significant development in the service.

“Besides acknowledging lecturers for their excellent service, this strategy is aimed at enticing qualified and experienced teachers to serve the TEC,” he said.
